Goodwill Soccer - about us

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of Goodwill Soccer is to promote women's over-30 recreational soccer and to create goodwill between our host country and the USA.

Imagine fourteen ladies packing their bags, leaving husbands to take care of the kids, and flying off to Costa Rica for three days to play soccer! Sound a little out-of-the-ordinary? Well, that's exactly what happened in 1997, and that trip marked the beginning of what would become an annual event, with a different team trekking off to a different country each year thereafter.

As the usual length of stay has increased from 3 to 10 days, there is more time to travel within each country and to meet more people while learning to appreciate their culture.

Representing the city of Fort Lauderdale when they travel, these over-30 soccer enthusiasts come from many of the surrounding cities of the Greater Fort Lauderdale area. They are all members of local women's over-30 recreational soccer leagues.

Each year a new team captain announces the location of the upcoming soccer trip on our Facebook page. Players from any of the leagues may then sign up for that trip and are selected by the captain, regardless of skill level. Several friendly matches are arranged with teams from the host countries, and new, international bonds of friendship begin to unfold.
Traveling to a foreign country is so exciting! To be able to play soccer with great friends while exploring the uniqueness of a new country makes this experience even better than imaginable. For many of us, Goodwill Soccer represents the trip of a lifetime!
